About the Day
Orchards Full of Bugs!
Hunt for and collect bugs in the orchards and see where they live in the wild! Learn all about these interesting creatures and why they are important to us! You will be led by our performing leader who will help you find the best beasties in the orchards!
Close Encounters with the LIVE BUGS!
Meet an impressive collection of Mega Bugs, including giant cockroaches, millipedes, devil stick insects and epic moths!
After being amazed and inspired by the fantastic bugs you have seen, you can get creative and build your very own bug to take home with you!
There will be time in the middle of the day when everyone can eat their picnics together, so bring something tasty to enjoy.
“I would just like to say a huge thank you to all who were involved in organising your bug day on June 1st. I took my 5 year old and 2 year old girls, and they loved it! Despite the weather all involved remained cheery, and kept both children engaged the whole day. Billie was great with the children, and Heidi my 5 year old was amazed by all her facts, especially about slug teeth. She spent a good half hour telling my husband so many insect facts the following morning- she took every bite of information in and is now fascinated with bugs, spending the following day pointing out every snail and spider she sees. She is now nagging for a stick insect rather than a puppy (something a bit more achievable we hope!). My 2 year old even sat still for an hour in the afternoon listening to Tony and she won’t even do that with Peppa Pig!”
“You truly managed to engage and educate my two, and me (usually a squirmer at the sight of bugs!) and enthuse us all into learning more. I have a feeling our family will be out regularly shaking trees and lifting up stones in search of creepy crawlies, and I will certainly be recommending your day to other mums I know!”
“Thanks again for a fabulous day.”
“A huge thank you to everyone involved in the beastie day today – my 5 year old bug lover and 2 year old insectophobic both had a fantastic time getting up close to the bugs and hunting around the grounds. To be able to appeal and adapt to children of all ages (and keenness of bugs) is a gift and I can’t wait to bring my children again.”
“I stumbled across the Beastie day at Brogdale on the Internet. Having been there a number of times I thought it would be something different to do with the kids in half term. The total cost was £15 and was told to bring a packed lunch. To be honest I wasn’t expecting much. We turned up and were split into 2 groups: Spiders and Grasshoppers and that’s when the fun started. Each child was given a bug pot and bag to collect objects in. Kelly was excellent with the kids as we walked through the orchards hunting for bugs. The kids loved it as did the adults! Then there was a talk by Tony and his BIG bugs which the kids could hold. It was great. After lunch was a creative session making bugs. Would recommend this to anyone with kids looking for something a little different. We had a fantastic day!!!!”
